I did an editorial fashion shoot for Kurv magazine, and as usual my collaborators and I tried to produce something the editors, and their readers, had not seen before. In addition to the usual treasure hunt for beautiful models and wonderful fashion, in my desire for originality I wanted to explore the architecture of unusual backgrounds.

Deborah Freedman, the artist with whom I’ve worked on a number of projects, provided intriguing materials and painted backgrounds. I used these to compose unusual constructions with tilted walls, odd angles, tightening corners.

Careful casting brought two beautiful models:
Anna Voroblyeva, Wilhelmina
Julia Bedard, Mc2 Model Management
Along with Deborah Freedman, we gathered a talented team:
Riad Azar, Hair Stylist
Lisa Jarvis, Stylist
Yuko Takahashi, Make-up Artist
Seevon Chau, Make-up Assistant
Kumi Nagano, Nail Stylist

Together, we conjured these other-worldly images.

Over the course of our two-day shoot, I explored the construction of all sorts of sets…like a painter placing one layer of color over another, one texture of brushwork next to another, putting pieces of the puzzle together in search to reveal amazement.

All sorts of accessories were tracked down, collected, and brought to the studio. The models wore some, and others were just cool on their own.
