Dance in Four Acts, Act III, 2011-2018.
Dance is Movement, Depth and Sound. A photograph is frozen still,
flat (two-dimensional) and silent. One can not really expect still
photography to portray the phenomenon of dance.
What to do?
Photography as its own art form must find its own sensibility and authenticity.
I’ve learned I can, to some degree, illustrate a feeling of motion by utilizing
special lighting and keeping the camera open long enough to artistically
express a dancer’s movement from one gesture to another to
another. Some of these images attempt to do just that.
