The Post Hotel Weggis

Not too long ago we were contacted by the operators of the fine resort Post Hotel in Weggis, Switzerland, about their desire and plans to decorate their entire facility with my images.

A request like that is a sweet thing to hear, for any artist.

Weggis is a beautiful resort located on the the northern shore of Lake Lucerne, south of Zurich, surrounded by the Alps.

After making an agreement for the purchases of my photographs we set about printing.

An image from “Botanica”  (https://howardschatz.com/books.php?galleryID=41) was placed over the bed in every room, along with a copy of the book.

The public spaces – lobbies, gym, spa – were to be decorated with my
underwater images (POOL LIGHT: howardschatz.com/books.php?galleryID=35
and H20: https://howardschatz.com/books.php?galleryID=43)
and photographs from other projects.

And meeting rooms.

The entire hotel was transformed into a very luxurious gallery.

The thrust, the energy behind my image-making, the quest to surprise and
delight myself, is for me the greatest of pleasures; the joy is in the journey.
The treasure hunt is the fun;  the finding of gems wonderful. A good image is of course satisfying, though once finished I need to move on.  Time to search again.

In this case to encounter my photographs in such a functional way, used to complement and enliven public spaces, is never-the-less of significance. And, to risk immodesty – very satisfying.

Once the installation of all the images was complete the hotel invited Beverly and me to visit and stay for a few days. We were presented with the surprise of a gallery room off the lobby devoted exclusively to my work. That gallery is now located at the sister hotel, Park Hotel Weggis.

Our stay in the hotel, surrounded by years of photographs that we had the sheer fun of making, was an incredible thrill.
