I am endlessly, insatiably curious about the vast variety of our human species.
Whenever an opportunity arises to make photographs of any “subgroup,” I can never remember feeling “not interested.”

I’ve had a long fascination with the particular tribe of the people who go to dance clubs, a rich visual vein in Manhattan.

The club “scene”

Over the past 20 years, I have set up small studios to create portraits in many New York dance clubs, and have made thousands of pictures. In all these years, I feel that I haven’t begun to exhaust the possibilities, and my curiosity.

This threesome claimed they were polyamorous; each one is the lover of the other two.

I have found that making photographs of groups of threesomes rather sensational.

These are a few of the “threesomes” I’ve photographed. The interpersonal dynamics are usually very intriguing, sometimes puzzling and utterly riveting.

One way to look at these images is to observe and wonder about the nature of each relationship. What connects the first person to the second,  the second to the third,  and the first to the third. I always find myself wondering how each person in the trio feels about the relationship between the other two.
