Jessica Schatz demonstrates Pilates Exercises on the Reformer.

In May of last year, I flew to Los Angeles to make photographs and videos of a Master Pilates Instructor for the website of her business. My client’s name? Jessica Schatz, who just happens to be the number two of my two daughters. I am immensely proud of her for all she’s accomplished, the volumes about the human body she’s learned, for her sweet and joyful nature, and for the loving and generous person she is. For me, this was the most satisfying and enjoyable photo shoot, ever!

Very focused and serious about her approach to the disciplines of Pilates and with a deep understanding of the human musculoskeletal system, she is a living advertisement for the benefits of Pilates, having paid close attention to her own trim and healthy physique, as these images clearly show.

In a large professional studio in LA, together with a crew of assistants, Jessica and I worked all day to make images and videos of every important Pilates exercise. The experience was a happy one, gratifying for both of us.

Over the ensuing months, Jessica and I edited the pictures and I composed collages or groups of images to show the stages of each exercise, such as “Balance Control.”

This is a page from her web site which shows her instructing Jerrell Pippens, a former NFL defensive back, in the “Single Leg Knee Strectch” on the Reformer. One of her specialties is working with professional athletes (NBA, NFL, MLB, etc) and dancers; thus the name “CHAMPION PILATES.“

Though there’s just a chance that I’m biased, I consider the site she produced magnificent.

Collage of Pilates Exercise with Jessica as the Teacher

I asked Jessica to write a note about her work:

“My work as a Pilates Master Trainer is about helping people function, feel, perform, play, & BE better.  The purpose of Pilates work is to attain control of the body as opposed to be at it’s mercy. And, I feel an enormous thrill and satisfaction when my students and clients achieve excellent results. I emphasize to all that the fabulous long & lean “look” their body achieves is simply an awesome bonus feature!“  -Jessica Schatz
